The Puerto Rican economy stands to gain about $28 million from various international sporting events on the island, according to the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), a state-run agency.
From 2010-2011 some 50 sporting events will be held in Puerto Rico that are expected to reap around $28 million in revenue for the island’s hospitality industry. Sports are only part of the government strategy for attracting tourists to Puerto Rico, which annually welcomes 5 million visitors, with an annual increase of close to 6 percent.
The Puerto Rico Open at the Trump International Golf Club in Rio Grande is perhaps the most important event held annually on the island. The event brings brings almost $ 5 million. While it may be the highest profile sporting competition hosted by the island, the Puerto Rico Open is far from the only one. Other sports events held in Puerto Rico: Rip Curl Pro Search Championship, La Vuelta cycling event , Puerto Rico Bodyboarding Contest and The Central American Games. Recent sports events held on the island: The Ironman 70.3 and The Corona Extra Pro Surf circuit.

Rincon, Puerto Rico A Surfers Destination
Rincon is a town in Puerto Rico, that is popular with surfers. Rincon is located in the West Coast of Puerto Rico, about 2 hours from San Juan. Rincon, is the place with the best surfing beaches in Puerto Rico, including Marias Beach, Sandy Beach, Tres Palmas Beach, Domes Beach, Pools Beach, and Rincon Town Beach Plaza.

- Scuba Diving and Snorkeling: Many options available in Rincon.
- Desecheo Island National Wildlife Refuge: The island is located 14 miles from the coast, is not open to visitors, but scuba diving, snorkeling, and fishing are allowed around the island.
- Rincon Lighthouse: Recreation park and a great location where you can see Desecheo Island National Wildlife Refuge.
- Whale Watching: Whales can be spotted between December and March.
